“9 Writers, 4 Cities: The Book Tour” to make its final stop at the Garden City Literary Festival


Eight Nigerian authors who are part of a book-tour extravaganza tagged “9 Writers, 4 Cities: The Book Tour” will participate in the 2nd Garden City Literary Festival taking place at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt from September 23-26.

The three-day festival will feature two reading and book signing sessions by these authors who are part of the “9 Writers, 4 Cities: The Book Tour”. Confirmed to showcase their work and interact with readers at the literary festival are Toni Kan (author of Nights of a Creaking Bed), Lindsay Barrett (journalist, poet and author of several books, including Song for Mumu), Jumoke Verissimo (author of I am Memory), Tade Ipadeola (a lawyer and author of the poetry collection A Sign of Times), Joy Isi Bewaji (author of Eko Dialogue), Eghosa Imasuen (medical doctor and author of To Saint Patrick), A. Igoni Barrett (managing editor of Farafina magazine and author of From Caves of Rotten Teeth) and Bimbo Adelakun (journalist and author of Under the Brown Rusted Roofs).

The appearance of these authors in the Garden City Literary Festival will mark the end of their reading tour that took the writers to reading and book signing events in Benin City, Ibadan, Lagos, and Warri.

“9 Writers, 4 Cities: The Book Tour” was conceived as a series of book readings, book signings and discussions. Each event is recorded and made available for download online.

The authors, who represent some of the finest voices in contemporary Nigerian fiction, poetry and memoir, have generated wide publicity and huge turnouts during their tour. It is expected that their events at the Garden City Literary Festival will draw the largest crowds of readers yet.

The festival will also feature a keynote address and interactive sessions with Kenyan author Ngugi wa Thiong’o, performance of a play by dramatist and poet J.P. Clark, talks by UK-based novelist Buchi Emecheta and workshops with Sefi Atta and Igoni Barrett.

In addition, the festival will offer a book fair, several forums on book publishing, cultural displays as well as programmes for elementary and secondary school students.
