I Wish…

I wish for one
I wish for all
I wish for a blissful dawn,
That my dream could be tall
I wish for light
I wish for water,
With every of my might
As the sun beams hotter
I wish for a simple truth
From the captain of our ship
I wish against the loot
From the sailors of every trip
I wish for transparency
That we could see inside
I wish for accountability
That we show all, not to hide

We have not
Though we claim to have
Our pride is cut
When most do starve.
We fight for the red seats,
We war for the green seats,
No matter if no one eats
We worry not, we have our meats.

I cried on the highway,
Tears contouring my face,
A boy of half my age,
He hails his goods
At the top of his dusty voice.
A rag clothed woman
Sends forth her child
To beg for crumbs

A beggar am I like these
Who cluster the streets of Lagos,
A beggar am I like these,
Except I beg too much
I beg for water
I beg for light
I beg for a path
To find my way
To our promised home.
